Each 1" long screw set includes a brass screw, split locking washer, and hex nut. There are 10 sets per a package. Other lengths are available.
These rock! Instead of riveting all your designs, make them interchangable. The split locking washer included in the set is a must. It keeps the hex nut nice and tight and prevents it from coming loose. (They can still be riveted if desired though.)
The screws fit perfect in beads with a 1/16th size hole. For lampwork beads, that means they are perfect for beads made on a 1/16th size mandrel.
These screws are used in a lot of the kits and lessons on Tickle Me Beads. It opens up a whole new world in options for jewelry design.
Hints and tips...
*Make sure that the split locking washer is placed on the screw before the hex nut. Then tighten down with fingers and a pair of needle nose pliers OR...use the 4mm size nut in the 5 piece set of nut drivers offered in the stamping tools section to tighten and loosen the hex nuts. The key is to make the hex nut tight from the beginning otherwise the locking washer can not do it's job of keeping everything securely in place.
Depending on varying bead sizes used in the interchangeable feature, different lengths of screws might be needed. Keep in mind if the screws are too long, they can be trimmed down with wire cutters. This will leave the screw with a sharp edge that will need to be filed flat using a course flat hand file (found in the tools section). If it is not filed flat, it will also be difficult to remove and replace the hex nut.
The hex nuts and locking washer are very tiny. If it is difficult for your fingers to work with such small objects, the hex nut driver set is highly recommended. It works great for adding and removing the hex nut. Use the 4mm size in the package.(available in tools section.)
If it is difficult to get the screw to hold steady while tightening the hex nut, use a small flat head screw driver in the head of the screw to hold it in position while tightening or loosening the hex nut. See photo below.
